An invitation to join:

Book Arts Santa Cruz is organization for everyone interested in the book arts.

In the early 1980s a group of Santa Cruz letterpress printers actively involved in making fine press books formed the Printers' Chappel of Santa Cruz. Today, because the world of the book has changed, and there are so many people interested in the book arts who are not letterpress printers, members of the SCPC have decided to create a new organization, Book Arts Santa Cruz. We welcome and want to include printers, printmakers, graphic designers, marblers, calligraphers, scrap bookers, binders, papermakers, book collectors, artists… in other words, everyone interested in the book arts, novices and professionals alike.

Book Arts Santa Cruz: The first meeting!!!

Our first official meeting for Book Arts Santa Cruz on August 23rd was a great success! Special thanks to Adrienne Momi and the artists of Momi Lani Paper Arts for hosting the event and to all those that contributed wonderful food and beverages to the pot luck. Also, a special thanks to Peter Thomas for his efforts in coordinating the event. For those that were unable to attend, no problem. We hope to see you at the next event. We will let everyone know as soon as our next meeting time and location has been determined.

A side note for you printers out there: I was recently given a large galley rack with galleys that I have no use for. Is there anyone in the group that would like to have it free of charge? The galleys themselves will take some work with steel wool and solvents to remove rust build-up, but other than that, it is a nice rack. If anyone is interested, please let me know and I can send you pictures. It is available for free pick-up or delivery (in the back of my truck). Please let me know.

Also, for those of you that own a Board Shear... Paul Brubaker of Bindery Tools is planning a West Coast trip to service Board Shears and other bindery equipment. If anyone has the need to have their Board Shear serviced, please let me know. I know of a place in SF that sharpen board shear blades up to 8 feet in length. When Paul arrives he can properly install them. The more people in our area that he is able to service, the less expensive it will be for all of us. I am hoping to have him come out, but I am in need of others to help make it more economical.

Thanks everyone!

All my best,

Matt Cohen
